The sixth installment in the V/H/S franchise, V/H/S/85, has set it world premiere at Fantastic Fest, in Austin, Texas, this September. This time around, the found footage anthology series will feature segments all set in the 1980s. Just like its predecessors, V/H/S/85 will feature found footage stories from different directors under the premise that all the featured footage is found on VHS tapes. A new image has also been unveiled showing a woman dressed in her 1980s best and armed and ready to fight. In a statement (via Bloody Disgusting), Fantastic Fest provided a brief description of what audiences can expect from the 1980s centered film:
“The iconic found footage series returns with an array of explosive, bloody scares set in a decade obsessed with serial killers and the Satanic Panic.”
V/H/S/85 includes an impressive group of directors and will include segments from David Bruckner, who helmed the Hellraiser reboot, the critically acclaimed The Night House and Netflix’s The Ritual; The Black Phone and Sinister director Scott Derrickson; Gigi Saul Guerrero, the mind behind Blumhouse’s Culture Shock; Natasha Kermani, who directed the 2020 horror film Lucky, about a self-help author who is stalked by a mysterious man; and Mike P. Nelson who helmed 2021’s Wrong Turn.
The popular horror anthology series began with 2012’s V/H/S, which featured stories from Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg, Ti West and Adam Wingard. V/H/S/2 and V/H/S: Viral followed in 2013 and 2014, respectively. The fourth film, V/H/S 1994, debuted in 2021 and featured segments from Simon Barrett, Steven Kostanski, Chloe Okuno, Ryan Prows, Jennifer Reeder, and Timo Tjahjanto, and is largely considered the franchise’s best. The fifth film, V/H/S/99, was released last year and was well received by critics and audiences.
Cinepocalyspe’s Josh Goldbloom, Bloody Disgusting’s Brad Miska, Bruckner, Chad Villella, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence, and James Harris, serve as producers for V/H/S/85. Michael Schreiber and Adam Boorstin executive produce for Studio71.
Following its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, V/H/S/85 will make its way to Shudder later this year.
