No Hard Feelings validates Jennifer Lawrence‘s title as one of the new queens of comedy. Despite the fact that it was Silver Linings Playbook that managed to give the star of The Hunger Games her coveted Academy Award, and technically it was also a comedy, it is in the new film from Sony Pictures where the actress is able to really demonstrate her skills to make people laugh.
The film, directed by Gene Stupnitsky, follows Maddie, a penniless young woman about to lose her home. Without a car, at risk of losing her job, and in crisis, she decides to respond to a strange ad in the newspaper published by two desperate parents who want their introverted son to get out of the house and live his life beyond the four walls of his room. Maddie will try to connect with Percy by seducing him and establishing a friendship with him, but it won’t be easy to make his personality blossom.
In addition to Lawrence, the cast is completed by Andrew Barth Feldman as Percy; Matthew Broderick as Laird, Percy’s father; Laura Benanti as Allison, Percy’s mother; Natalie Morales as Sara, a friend of Maddie’s; Scott MacArthur as Jim, a friend of Maddie’s; Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Gary; Hasan Minhaj as Doug; and Kyle Mooney as Jody.
No Hard Feeling Is More than Meets the Eye
No Hard Feelings hits theaters on Friday, June 23, but the film has already had several press screenings, and early reactions focus on Jennifer’s great work in her definitive leap into comedy in a story that surprises beyond its simple premise.
“No Hard Feelings is a heartfelt sex comedy. Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman do an amazing job. It’s very hilarious and self-aware. The film has a dramatic shift midway that worked for me in the end. Two extra points for including Nelly’s Hot in Herre.”
“All hail Jennifer Lawrence, the new queen of R-Rated comedies. No Hard Feelings is the perfect mix of raunchy and sweet, with two great leading performances from Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman. Come for the great laughs, stay for the gigantic heart.”
“NO HARD FEELINGS is carried on the back of Jennifer Lawrence’s natural talent. Without her, this wouldn’t work. Andrew Barth Feldman keeps up & delivers a sensitive breakout turn. An often funny & surprisingly sweet but uneven raunchy comedy we don’t see much of anymore.”
“No Hard Feelings owns exactly what it is: a throwback R-rated comedy. The jokes work really well, and it has a sweet edge to it too. Jennifer Lawrence is a perfect fit for this genre and carries it home. It never breaks into anything surprising, but it’s a good time nonetheless.”
“No Hard Feelings is very much my jam. Foul mouthed, funny, and with surprising heart, it’s a hoot. Jennifer Lawrence goes all in on the comedy, which pays dividends, with a bonus that she, unsurprisingly, aces the drama. A throwback to 80s comedies that I adore.”
“No Hard Feelings solidified for me that we need Jennifer Lawrence in more movies ASAP! While the movie overall is fine, she truly carries this thing on her back and gives a fully committed performance. What a movie star!”
“No Hard Feelings sees Jennifer Lawrence finally flexing her comic chops in one of her best performances in years. It’s a return to the raunchy R-rated sex comedies, but it’s also surprisingly sweet thanks to the chemistry of Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman. Big recommendation!”
“I needed to laugh tonight so I’m very happy I went to see the hilarious No Hard Feelings. What I didn’t expect was its gigantic heart. Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman are simply a wonderful pair.”
