A new study has named Whoopi Goldberg the No. 1 spot for top-performing actors, based on the averages of their IMDb ratings across all of their respective films. The survey, conducted by MrQ, took 30 of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, analyzed their IMDb scores to determine the top and worst-rated performers in movies. And we’re still scratching our heads over whose name ended up at the bottom of the list, given Michael Caine’s enduring legacy.

Today Goldberg is best known for co-hosting The view, so her name might not have been the first thing most people would have thought of. Looking at her filmography, it becomes clearer why she came to the top, as she was in some rather popular and critically acclaimed films. This includes the Steven Spielberg classic The color purple, which earned Goldberg the Golden Globe for Best Actress. She later won Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her unforgettable role in Ghost alongside Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.

Many Goldberg fans also fondly remember her in the classic comedy Sister Act along with the sequel Sister Act 2: Back to the Habit. Although that second film was not as well received, it was still a hit with many Goldberg fans. She is actively preparing to return again in the next time Sister Act sequel in development with producer Tyler Perry at Disney+.

Based on 22 films she starred in, Goldberg scored an IMDb rating of 7.39. The ones that stand out from the rest of the top 5 are Leonardo DiCaprio at 7:00am with 57 movies; Zendaya at 6.99 with 9 movies; Helena Bonham Carter at 6.86 with 53 films; and Brad Pitt at 6.83 with 93 movies.

Michael Caine is the study’s worst-performing actor

Michael Caine on the set of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island{31} I've never seen a 3D movie. These are some firsts for me. I'm a real grandpa, I've only been a grandpa for a few years, but I'm playing a grandpa for the first time. And I'm working on a 3D movie, which is very modern and strange, because being a grandfather is very old, and the other one, 3D, is very new. I've seen myself in 3D on the monitors there. It is well. I look even uglier (laughs).

While we can all agree that Michael Caine is a phenomenal actor, his name is in the bottom line, making him the worst performing actor based on those included in the survey. He averaged an IMDb rating of 5.32 for 42 films. Looking at the rest of the five worst performing actors based on IMDb averages, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson names are at number 2 as he scored 6.06 with 49 movies; Angelina Jolie at 6.28 with 52 movies; Margot Robbie at 6.39 with 24 movies; and Robert Downey Jr. at 6.41 with 78 movies.

It’s worth noting, of course, that this list only includes 30 actors, and all of them are among some of the most accomplished actors in movie history. someone had to finish on the bottom, even if it’s an actor as acclaimed as Caine.

While Robbie is in the bottom five, she also gets credit as the Hollywood actor with the most improved performance, according to the survey. Her score has increased from 2.85 to 6.78 in the past two decades. This gives her a 68% improvement in movie performance on IMDb, while Vin Diesel’s performance dropped the most.
