Things are familiar but different in the new teaser trailer for Bel Air. Based on a YouTube parody of video spoofing The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the new series is a reinvention of the classic sitcom, but with a darker, more dramatic edge. The new teaser takes the lyrics from the iconic theme song from the original show and pits them against dramatic music with the new Will, played by Jabari Banks, who ascended to his throne as the Prince of Bel-Air.
The official summary for Bel Air reads: “Set in modern-day America, Bel Air is a one-hour drama series in the 1990s sitcom series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Airthat leans on its original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a refreshed vision, Bel-Air will delve deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions, and prejudices that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show.
