Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas reveals the setting of the Disney+ series, and it will be the latest entry in the MCU timeline.
hawk eye director Rhys Thomas has revealed some intriguing details about Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series, stating that the show’s events will take place two years after the events of Avengers: Endgame. This means that hawk eye will jump from 2023 to 2025, or possibly from 2023 to 2024, which will make the series the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline anyway.
“Clint is someone we obviously haven’t spent much time with over the course of the movies. We get to see where he is, we’re two years after the events of Endgame. And so we get to see where he is what he’s got done and how he deals with his past.”
What this will mean for the series, and even the MCU in the future, remains to be seen, but Hawkeye could potentially be our best guide to future projects, especially December’s big screen outing. Spider-Man: No Way Home, might set the stage for this little time jump. The setting also likely gives the show plenty of opportunities to explore Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton, in particular how he’s been affected and even coming to terms with the catastrophic events of Avengers: Endgame and his years as a superhero and former avenger.
Thomas further teases about this element of Hawkeye, revealing that the human Clint Barton will face hearing loss thanks to all the punishment his body has endured as he battles literal gods, super soldiers, and other such apocalyptic threats. “It was an interesting aspect, I think an additional way to discuss and show his humanity,” said the director. “Because we’re used to these characters generally having superpowers and suits and stuff, but Clint is someone who’s been beaten up and thrown around and is a real person.”
The production team was careful when portraying Clint Barton’s hearing loss, meeting with advisors and making sure it was as accurate as possible. “So it was an exciting way to connect that, and to understand hearing loss and hearing impairment instead of being deaf. Disney was great because we talked to deaf consultants a few times to talk us through that world and understand and I also did my best to learn ASL.” As many expected, this will also lead to the introduction of Alaqua Cox as vigilante, Echo.”It’s really nice because I think those details were always really important to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios President] to get them right, and later we have [Alaqua Cox’s Echo] Also, who is a deaf character.”
From Disney+ and Marvel Studios, Hawkeye is a new series set in post-blip New York City, following former Avenger Clint Barton as he takes on a seemingly simple mission: back to his family for Christmas. Possibly? Perhaps with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer who dreams of becoming a superhero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail much more than the party atmosphere. Starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld as Clint Barton and Kate Bishop respectively, hawk eye is scheduled to premiere the first two episodes on November 24, 2021 and will consist of six episodes, ending December 22.
