Netflix celebrates the fifth anniversary of Strange things, one of the most popular of all the streaming platform’s original shows. The 1980s series, which first appeared on Netflix in 2016, follows a group of young people surrounded by supernatural events in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. The series has since run for three seasons and gained international acclaim while racking up record viewership for Netflix.
Netflix celebrates its fifth anniversary Strange things with a video posted looking back at the beginning of the series. Netflix took to Twitter with the clip, boasting about the show’s total viewership, posting: “Strange things premiered 5 years ago today — and in that time, 196 million households have chosen to watch at least one episode of the show! Let’s go back to where it all started…”
Posting some pictures of the Strange things cast over the years, the official account for the hit series added, “Posting these pictures here will rock your brain.”
Strange things was created by the Duffer Brothers and stars Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Charlie Heaton, Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer, and David Harbour. Newcomers to the fourth season cast include Robert Englund, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Quinn and Eduardo Franco.
Last year, Netflix provided our first look at Stranger Things 4 with a new teaser. It revealed that Harbor’s Hopper has since ended up in a Russian prison, but exactly how he got there remains to be seen. Back in Hawkins, meanwhile, the other characters will have to face a new threat, as plagued by the creators.
“We’re excited to officially announce that production for Stranger Things 4 is now underway – and even more excited to announce Hopper’s return!” the Duffer Brothers said when the teaser was released. “While it’s not all good news for our ‘American’; [Hopper] is trapped far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, Russia, where he will face both human… and other dangers. Meanwhile, in the United States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that ties everything together.”
The duo added: “Season 4 will be the biggest and most terrifying season yet, and we can’t wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime, pray for the American.”
In May, Netflix released another teaser trailer for Stranger Things 4. This one focused specifically on Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven with the fans’ favorite character locked up in the institution she grew up in. A voice asks her if she’s listening, and her eyes shoot open before the teaser ends. The video raises more questions than anything else, leaving fans wondering what exactly is in store for Eleven come Stranger Things 4.
Congratulations on the 5th anniversary Strange things. The first three seasons of Strange things currently streaming on Netflix. Meanwhile, the streamer has yet to set an official premiere date for Stranger Things 4, but David Harbor said in June that the season was on track to wrap up filming in August. We probably won’t see the new episodes until 2022. The recent celebration of the show’s fifth anniversary was posted on Twitter by Netflix.
