After forty years of terror, The Evil Death returns to the cinema in honor of the iconic horror film’s 40th anniversary. Hosted by Fathom Events in association with Grindhouse Releasing, the film returns to the big screen for just one night on the night of Thursday, October 7th. The special screening will also include an exclusive introduction from Bruce Campbell, the star of the franchise who plays favorite hero Ash Williams.
“We are excited to give horror fans the chance to come together and celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sam Raimi’s cult classic The Evil DeathRay Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, said in a statement. “Let’s kick off the Halloween season with the movie that kicked off a great franchise.”
Grindhouse Releasing co-founder Bob Murawski, who has edited many of Sam Raimi’s films, including: army of darkness and Spider Man1, 2 & 3, added: “We are proud of this special showing of the 40th anniversary of Evil Dead with Fathom Events. The original movie has always been my favorite of the series. It is truly one of the scariest and wildest horror movies of all time. I’m thrilled that a new generation of fans will have the opportunity to experience it like I did for the first time – on the big screen with a screaming audience!”
There are also other fun things along the way. In honor of the film’s 40th anniversary, Lionsgate Home Entertainment is releasing a new collectible box set of: The Evil Death,The Evil Dead II, and all three seasons of Ash vs. Evil Dead this fall. Grindhouse Releasing also has various merchandise for sale based on: The Evil Death and will have display merchandise related to the 40th anniversary.
The Evil Death is directed and written by Sam Raimi and produced by Rob Tapert. Bruce Campbell stars in his debut as Ash in the first installment of what would become a hugely successful horror film franchise. The film spawned two sequels, a reboot, a TV series, and an upcoming video game. Since Campbell will stop playing the role of Ash in more live-action projects, we’ll have to stick with revisiting his past performances in the classic movies, although the video game will have him back as Ash’s voice.
A logline for the iconic film reads: “In the first episode of Sam Raimi’s famous original The Evil Death trilogy, Ash (Campbell), his girlfriend Linda (Betsy Baker), his sister Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss), and the couple Scotty (Hal Delrich) and Shelly (Sarah York), drive to a secluded cabin in the woods for a fun getaway. While there, they find the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (aka “The Book of the Dead”), an ancient tome whose text awakens the dead when read aloud. After inadvertently unleashing a tidal wave of evil, the five friends must fight for their lives or become possessed.”
The Evil Dead 40th Birthday The will play in theaters nationwide on Thursday, October 7 at 7:30 PM. Tickets go on sale from Friday 13 August. You can find more information on the official Fathom Events website, as well as see what merchandise is for sale at Grindhouse Releasing.
