Now that the court has decided to release him, the women’s rights lawyer representing dozens of Cosby’s accusers, Gloria Allred, released a statement via USA Today acknowledging that this decision must be “devastating” for all of his victims.
However, she wanted to make it very clear that the court’s decision in no way means that Cosby has been found innocent of his horrific acts.
“Despite the decision of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, this was still an important battle for justice and although the court overturned the conviction on technical grounds, it did not justify Bill Cosby’s conduct and should not be interpreted as a finding that he hadn’t done. engage in the acts of which he is accused.”
In addition, the Montgomery County District Attorney, who initially convicted disgraced actor Kevin Steele, also shared through the same channel that he “is now acquitted on a procedural matter irrelevant to the facts of the crime.” I hope the decision will not dampen reporting of sexual assault by victims. Prosecutors will continue to follow evidence wherever and to whomever it leads. We still believe that no one is above the law – not even the rich, famous and powerful.”
