While giving her acceptance speech at the BET Awards, Queen Latifah got a little emotional. She was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event and of course it was such a special milestone for her!
That said, as she looked back on her long career, she couldn’t help but shed tears.

She began her acceptance speech by thanking everyone who has ever helped make her success possible over the years.
“I’m so moved, I don’t even know what to say. My brothers and sisters, my best friends – who ride or die with me. Whether my face is on the ground or flying in the air, they know me and are there for me.’
The star also thanked the entire BET network for always helping “Beautiful Blackness” even in the past when things were very different for POC in the entertainment industry.

After all, she couldn’t have ignored that in her speech, since the night was actually the theme of celebrating the Year of the Black Woman, something Queen Latifah emphasized was a very important thing to do.
“When we couldn’t play on the radio and in other places, we couldn’t play our videos in other places, there was a BET that allowed us to be in our fullness, and to enjoy this night now, here, shine . I’ve always celebrated women because I was raised by a strong black woman, raised by a father who loves women. We can’t live without each other. I wanted to celebrate because I know we are stronger together than tearing each other apart. I’ve seen enough of that. So respect for all the women on stage tonight.’
Finally, she made sure to thank her fans “for supporting all the crazy things I’ve done over the years,” before wishing everyone “Peace and Happy Pride.”
