On the Today Show, James Michael Tyler, known for playing Gunther, the manager of the Central Perk coffeehouse, talked about his health problems over the past few years! It turned out that the man was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018 and was undergoing chemotherapy.
James Michael Tyler is 59 years old and fighting for his life, so he got quite emotional talking about it on camera while guesting on the Today Show earlier today.

‘I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which had already spread to my bones. It’s stage 4, late stage cancer, so eventually it’ll probably hit me,” he told the host during the interview.
In addition to his role as Gunther, Tyler has also guest-starred in other major titles such as Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Just Shoot Me and Scrubs!
The actor went on to say that when his cancer was first discovered in 2018, he was treated with hormone therapy, which worked perfectly for the first year.

However, during the pandemic, the disease mutated and spread to his spine, causing a spinal cord injury.
“I missed a test, which was not good,” he noted.
Tyler said Friends producers have known about his diagnosis for a long time, while the cast also knows “right now.”
Explaining why he was appearing on the Friends via Zoom reunion special and not in person, he said there were initially plans “to at least be on stage with them, and be able to participate in all the festivities.” ‘ but because his condition is now much worse, that ultimately did not happen.
“It was bittersweet, to be honest. I was really happy to be there. It was my decision not to physically be a part of it and show up on Zoom because I didn’t want to put a damper on it, you know? I didn’t want to be like, “Oh, and by the way, Gunther has cancer.”
