While he has been candid about his struggle with loneliness and feeling very down at times, Ryan Reynolds emphasized that it is really “important to talk about” mental health. The actor said he really wants to destigmatize this topic for the sake of his children.
That’s right! In a new interview, Reynolds said he wants to be a “model” for his daughters and one of the ways to do this is to be as open as possible about his own struggles.

But ultimately he wants everyone to be just as open to a better world.
While chatting with ET, he stated: “Part of it is that I have 3 daughters at home and part of my whole job as a parent is to model their behavior and model what it’s like to be sad and model what it is like to be anxious or angry. That there is room for all these things. The house I grew up in was not really modeled for me. And that’s not to say that my parents were negligent, but they come from a very different generation.”
He went on to say that ‘part of it is to destigmatize things and start a conversation about’ [mental health]. I know when I felt at absolute bottom, it was usually because I felt like I was alone in something I was feeling. I think when people talk about it, I don’t necessarily think about it, but I think it’s important to talk about it. When you talk about it, it sets other people free. “Oh, he feels that and so do I.” And even though we are in 2 different fields or maybe we have 2 completely different lives, it still connects us in a certain way.’
