The first images from the set of Marvel’s upcoming She-Hulk Disney+ series has now been released, one of which will feature Mark Ruffalo, who will reprise the role of Bruce Banner and The Hulk. Dressed in a motion capture suit and sporting what must now be the all-too-familiar mo-cap dots all over his face, the image confirms that Ruffalo will appear in the series as the Green Goliath and not just the human Bruce Banner.
“What a pleasure to meet Mark Ruffalo on the set of Marvel always inspired by his work such a cool down to earth guy it’s rare to find people like that in this business so definitely an honor to be in the same set with him!” the caption said that was shared alongside the images in a social media post.
While the images don’t show much, the use of further mo-cap on Ruffalo strongly suggests that he used the Banner/Hulk hybrid that first appeared in 2019 Avengers: Endgame. After fighting for control for so many years, Banner and Hulk were finally able to put their differences aside after a defeat by Thanos, joining the brains and brawn to create an identity that came to be known as Professor Hulk. Marvel fans have wondered if this would be the version of the character in She-Hulk, or that Banner would return to human form, and it now appears to be the first.
The Disney+ She-Hulk series has quite a comedic pedigree and will be run by Silicone Valley and Rick and Morty alum Jessica Gao and is directed by Kat Coiro (It’s always sunny in Philadelphia) and Anu Valia (AP Bio). The show is directed by Black orphan‘s Tatiana Maslany, and revolves around Jennifer Walters (played by Maslany), a lawyer and cousin of Bruce Banner. Jennifer inherits Banner’s Hulk powers after receiving a blood transfusion from him, but, unlike Bruce Banner, Jennifer is able to retain most of her personality, intelligence and, crucially, emotional control.
“It’s a series about a woman trying to navigate the world and being seen as a working professional, despite being over 6 feet tall — and green,” said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige during Marvel’s presentation at the most recent Disney show. Investor Day event. The Marvel boss called the series “very funny,” before teasing the arrival of other characters from across the MCU. “Because Jennifer Walters is an attorney who specializes specifically in superhero-focused lawsuits, you never know which Marvel characters will show up from episode to episode,” Feige said.
Feige has since revealed a few more details, describing the series as a “half-hour legal comedy”, and something Marvel Studios “has never done before”. He went on to reveal that the show will draw inspiration and “stay true” to writer-artist John Byrne’s 1980s She-Hulk run, who took a semi-satirical approach to the character, even making her one of the few Marvel characters was that the fourth wall.
She-Hulk doesn’t have a Disney+ release date yet, but is expected to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2022. This is from Marvel News.
