Robin Williams has been gone for almost 7 years and yet his impact on the world is still felt today, especially on those who knew him personally. As you may know, the cast of Mrs Doubtfire has reunited to celebrate the 25th anniversary and actress Lisa Jakub, who played the eldest daughter in the film, shared how Robin Williams helped her with her own anxiety and depression issues.
Jakub shared that ‘Robin was everything you hoped he would be, and he was very open and honest with me about his own issues with anxiety and depression. I was able to tell him that anxiety was something I struggled with, and he talked to me about mental health in a way 14-year-olds aren’t usually used to adults being so open about that kind of personal experience with them. ‘

The actress also recalled that Williams would talk to her openly about his experience with substance abuse and addiction.
Jakub commented that she felt that was very important to her, as a child star to know at the time.

After appearing in films such as Independence Day, Jakub stepped out of Hollywood after being able to identify the huge toll it took on her mental health.
“He really insisted on making sure I knew that drugs wouldn’t help. That that was a path he had taken with his addiction and that it made everything worse. And I think that as a 14-year-old boy actor it’s a very good story to get, a good message to hear, because it’s a passable path for many young actors.’
Today, Jakub is paying it forward by participating in mental health workshops to help others deal with anxiety, depression, and other common mental health issues.
