Stephen Lang and Susan Sarandon will join the cast of the upcoming dystopian podcast drama Marvel’s Wastelanders, has been announced. This news was revealed during the Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord cast town hall. Lang has been cast as Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, in Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Hawkeye. Best-known roles include Colonel Miles Quaritch in James Cameron’s Avatar, and Norman Nordstrom in 2016 Don’t breathe. Long will reprise both roles in sequels to those respective films.
Susan Sarandon will play Natasha Romanov, the Black Widow, in Marvel’s Wastelanders: Gray Widow. Sarandon’s most recent credits include divisions in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Cloud Atlas and Zoolander 2 (as herself). Stephen Lang and Susan Sarandon will participate in addition to the Marvel’s Wastelanders project Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord actors Timothy Busfield and Chris Elliott (who play the eponymous Old Man Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon respectively).
The trailer for Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord was released last week and will be the first scripted podcast release resulting from Marvel’s partnership with Sirius XM. Although no release dates have yet been confirmed for either of them Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Hawkeye or Marvel’s Wastelanders: Gray Widow, we can share a synopsis for the Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord episode – debuts June 1, 2021:
In a post-apocalyptic future, Marvel’s Wastelanders: Old Man Star-Lord finds Peter Quill (Timothy Busfield) and Rocket (Chris Elliott) a bit more potbellied, a bit slower and a lot saltier than they were during the glory days of the Guardians of the Galaxy. They soon discover that Earth is no longer what it used to be when they crash-landed 30 years after all the supervillains took power. The former Guardians are joined by a Rigellian Recorder, affectionately known as “Cora,” who documents their mission to find the Black Vortex – an ancient relic said to provide cosmic powers – before the guillotine collars given to them by The Collector breaking neck.
In the arid, desolate wasteland of the Midwest, controlled by Doctor Doom, they meet the timeless telepath Emma Frost (Vanessa Williams), outlaw Ghost Riders, Doomwood natives (Danny Glover) and the bloodthirsty Kraven the Hunter. be the first to find and what will be the price of his strength? “
The Marvel’s Wastelanders concept seems to be heavily influenced by comedy writer Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan series. Initially as part of Millar’s run on Fantastic four, Old Man Logan spanned in an eight-part miniseries – also written by Millar – featuring the adventures of Logan and a now blind Hawkeye – in a widespread dystopian version of the Marvel Universe where famous Marvel super villains such as Magneto, Doctor Doom, Red Skull and others have conquered their world, wiped out the superheroes and divided the planet into territories. Old Man Logan would appear in the “main” 616 version of the Marvel Universe for a short while.
It makes sense for that Wonder to kick off their podcast series featuring established and recognizable characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the 2019 Disney / Fox merger also had the benefit of properties including the Fantastic Four and X-Men returning to the Marvel Studios stable, Marvel Studios will no doubt want to relaunch these franchises on the biggest stage possible, instead from on the podcast format. Stay tuned for updates on this intriguing new Marvel series!
