The first poster and images of Netflix’s upcoming action outing Gunpowder Milkshake plague shoot-outs abound as the streaming giant sets a premiere date for July 14, 2021. Intriguingly, the film is set in one night, a night sure to be brimming with firearms, fistfights and other violence involving mother and daughter Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Endgame) and Chloe Coleman (My spy, Big Little Lies) in the middle.
The newly released teaser footage gives us a good idea of what to expect from Netflix’s latest foray into action cinema, such as Gunpowder Milkshake introduce the audience to a secret sisterhood of female hitmen who fight over the course of one night to stop a cycle of violence as they come to the rescue of a mother-daughter-killer duo.
The very cool poster, meanwhile, matches the very cool title of the movie beautifully, with the ’80s electric neon colors exploding from the artwork, along with the bullet casually piercing the titular booze. Directed by Navot Papushado from a screenplay by Papushado and Ehud Lavski, the upcoming action thriller stars Karen Gillan as Sam, a hitman and Emily’s adoptive mother, and Chloe Coleman as Emily, Sam’s adopted daughter and protégé.
Gunpowder Milkshake has amassed quite a bit of supporting cast alongside them, including Lena Headey as Scarlet, a British hitman and sisterhood leader, Angela Bassett as Anna May, an African-American hitman and sisterhood member, Paul Giamatti as Nathan, Michelle Yeoh as Florence, an Asian hitman and sisterhood member, Carla Gugino as Mathilde, Ivan Kaye as Yankee, Adam Nagaitis as Virgil, Ralph Ineson as Jim McAlester, and David Burnell IV as Shocker.
Ever since she stepped into the Hollywood spotlight with her role as Nebula in Marvel’s Guardians of the Universe, Karen Gillan has quickly become a Marvel Cinematic Universe favorite, taking on Nebula’s role throughout the franchise, such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, and both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Her evolution from misunderstood villain to reformed hero has been a public delight to watch, and now that the character is a full member of both The Avengers and the Guardian of the Galaxy, we can no doubt expect a lot more from Gillan. in the future of the MCU. Gillan will once again don Nebula’s bald head and blue skin Thor: Love and Thunder, which is expected to be released in the United States on May 6, 2022 as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
