A Cher biopic is in the works at Universal Pictures. On the eve of her 75th birthday, the famed singer known as the “Goddess of Pop” shared the news on Twitter that a new biopic about her life and career was officially underway. No title has yet been given, nor is a director or actress attached to play the “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves” singer, but the project has producers as well as an Oscar-winning screenwriter on board.
“Ok Universal is doing biopic with my friends,” Cher said in the tweet. JUDY CRAYMER, GARY GOETZMAN PRODUCE. THEY PRODUCED BOTH Mamma Mias, & MY DEAR DEAR Friend FOR 4 YEARS, & OSCAR WINNER..ERIC ROTH GOES 2 TO WRITE IT. Forrest Gump, A star is born, Suspect TO NAME A PAIR OF IS MOVIES. “
When a Cher fan asked why it took 50 years for the biopic to be made, the singer replied, “I Had More Life to Live.”
Cher is clearly excited, explaining that Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth is writing the script for her self-titled biopic. The prolific writer won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Forrest Gump and was four more times for the same price The initiate, Munich, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and A star is born. Mama Mia! producers Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman also produce the biopic after meeting Cher through her work on the sequel Mama Mia! Here we go again.

Cher’s more than life-size talent, fortitude, unique humor, warmth and vision. Her unparalleled success in music, film and TV has inspired generations. We couldn’t be happier telling her story to the cinema audience. ”
It’s no surprise to see Cher getting her own movie as she’s one of many musicians to have released a biopic. We’ve seen several successful biopics about musicians appear in recent years, including hit films about Freddy Mercury and Elton John and a Netflix series about Selena Quantanilla. The official trailer for this summer Respect, starring Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin, has also just been released. Biopics on other music icons such as Buddy Holly, Joey Ramone and Elvis Presley also take place.
Cher is famous worldwide for her music as well as for her acting talents on the big and small screens. She was nominated twice for an Oscar for her performance in Silkwood and Moonstruck, the victory for the latter. Recently she also played herself in the animated series Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? after meeting Scooby and the gang decades earlier The new Scooby-Doo movies.
There’s no word yet on when production of Cher’s unnamed biopic will begin. Until the official casting announcements are made, we can expect a lot of speculation from fans as to who might be the best person to play Cher, as well as her late ex-husband Sonny Bono. Given the talent involved, it is going to be a movie to watch out for, especially for big fans of the singer. This news comes from Deadline.
