The hashtag #SaveGotham is trending on Twitter as fans team up in an effort to revive the Batman prequel series. The show originally premiered on Fox in 2014, but the show ended after five seasons in 2019. There is no evidence that the world of Gotham will one day be expanded with some sort of sequel or spin-off series, but that doesn’t stop thousands of fans from getting it done.
“This show was the highlight of my week over the years,” one fan tweeted. “It wasn’t always perfect, but it was a much needed escape from reality that I would love to have again.”
I’m going to say it again … # SaveGotham, “said another fan.” It could go down in DC’s history as one of the best Batman series. It pays homage to the legacy of these characters, while also having an original concept not featured in the Batman mythos. “
One fan eager to see more of Cory Michael Smith as the Riddler said, “Riddler’s story was unfinished! Planning for a backstory and Cory saying he’d like Jim Carrey to play against his dad is something that we should get it. #SaveGotham. “
I saw #SaveGotham trending, so I wanted to remind everyone that it has one of the best versions of the Penguin, ”says someone else, referring to Robin Lord Taylor’s unforgettable performance as Oswald Cobblepot.
Another Taylor fan agrees, writing, “my favorite Gotham character is oswald cobblepot, i loved him from the beginning, and the execution of robin lord taylor is perfect #SaveGotham. “
In the first two seasons, Nicholas D’Agosto played Harvey Dent, the Gotham City prosecutor who becomes the villain Two-Face in Batman tradition. His transformation never happened during GothamIt’s five-season run, and at least one fan wants to save the show just to see a proper Two-Face introduction. A tweet reads, “The story of #SaveGotham Harvey Dent has yet to be told.”
And at least one fan sees the whole thing as just another excuse to watch the series by writing, “I didn’t know #SaveGotham was going on, but I’m 110% for it. Should I watch the whole series again? , help boost the numbers ?? (It’s the perfect excuse) “
Developed for television by Bruno Heller, Gotham is set in the years before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman, the savior of Gotham City. David Mazouz plays a young Bruce starring Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, a GCPD officer who mentors Bruce. The show also starred Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Cory Michael Smith as the Riddler, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Morena Baccarin as Lee Thompkins, and Cameron Monaghan as the Joker.
Gotham ended with Bruce posing as the Dark Knight for the very first time to fight crime on the streets. This means that a potentially sixth season, or any kind of continuation, would begin with Batman finally in the picture. Time will tell if the series is ever revived, but WarnerMedia looking to expand the HBO Max library with more exclusive content, the possibility is always there. You can see a lot more fans on Twitter striving for the show’s return.
