Several newly released clips of Netflix’s upcoming foray into the zombie genre, Army of the Dead, have now surfaced, offering a glimpse of about 5 minutes of footage from the action movie. With an emphasis on the deadly mission, the ragtag team of mercenaries tasked with getting it done, and of course, the star of the show, the zombie tiger, Valentine, fans should be excited to stream the movie when it will be available later this month.
Directed by Guards‘s Zack Snyder, with a screenplay co-wrote with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold, and with an ensemble cast including Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Samantha Win, Huma Qureshi and Garret Dillahunt, Army of the Dead takes place after a zombie outbreak that left Las Vegas in ruins and walled off from the rest of the world.
When Scott Ward (Dave Bautista), a displaced local Vegas former zombie war hero now spinning burgers on the outskirts of the town he now calls home, is approached by casino boss Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada), it’s with the ultimate proposal: Break into the zombie-infested quarantine zone to retrieve $ 200 million in a safe under the strip before the city is destroyed by the government within 32 hours. Driven by the hope that the payout could pave the way for a reconciliation with his estranged daughter Kate (Ella Purnell), Ward rises to the challenge and assembles a team of experts for the heist.
Scott soon finds an unexpected emotional hurdle when Kate joins the expedition to search for Geeta (Huma S. Qureshi), a mother who is missing in town. With a ticking clock, a notoriously impenetrable vault and a smarter, faster horde of Alpha zombies approaching, only one thing is certain in the greatest heist ever: survivors take it all.
Army of the Dead seems to be exactly the kind of no-nonsense action movie audiences are probably craving right now, with Snyder describing the project as ‘a full-blown zombie robbery movie’ and calling the ‘genre’ -on genre in a great way. So you expect pure zombie mayhem, and you get it 100 percent. But you also get these really great characters on a fantastic journey. It will surprise people that there is a lot of warmth and real emotion with these amazing characters. “
The streaming giant is clearly very confident about it Army of the Dead and the potential to produce a franchise, with a prequel movie, ArmyFrom Thieves, too, planned. The film centers around one of the central characters Army of the Dead, Ludwig Dieter (played by actor Matthias Schweighöfer), who will also act as a director. The story focuses on the early days of the Las Vegas zombie outbreak, with Schweighöfer joined by Nathalie Emmanuel, Guz Khan and Stuart Martin as new cast members, while Zack Snyder will be producing with wife Debroah Snyder.
