Seth Rogen’s professional relationship with James Franco maybe over. In recent years, the two actors have often appeared together in various film projects, from The Pineapple Express to The disaster performer to the much restless The interview. More recently, Rogen has been criticized for allegedly overlooking allegations of sexual misconduct against Franco after he claimed in 2018 that they would continue to work together.
In a new interview with the Sunday Times Magazine, Seth Rogen finally shed new light on the situation, and his opinion of Franco seems to be much less favorable. Looking back on his comments in 2018, Rogen claims he hasn’t worked with Franco since then, adding that he has “no plans” to reunite for a new project in the future. From the interview:
“I … look back to that interview in 2018 where I remarked that I would continue to work with James, and the truth is I didn’t and I don’t intend to now.”
Last month, actress Charlene Yi took to Instagram to accuse Franco of being a “sexual predator” who allegedly tried to bribe her into a bigger acting role when she wanted to leave the project. Yi also specifically turned down Rogen, saying he “is absolutely aware of the bribe” and serves as an enabler. She also criticized Rogen for doing one SNL joke about Franco’s allegations, “allowing Franco to hunt children.” Asked if he believes Yi’s allegations, here’s what Rogen had to say.
“What I can say is that I despise abuse and intimidation and that I would never cover or hide the actions of someone who does it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around such a person. But I do look back on a joke. I did Saturday Night Live in 2014 and I really regret making that joke. It was a really terrible joke. “
The SNL The joke in question was part of Rogen’s monologue when he hosted the show in 2018. Referring to allegations made by a 17-year-old girl that Franco tried to meet her at a hotel, Franco joked that he was ‘fooling’ Franco by posing as a young girl on Instagram. Franco himself later appeared to be joking that he had ‘already waited three days in the Ace Hotel’.
First share the screen together in the short-lived comedy series Freaks and Geeks in 1999, Rogen and Franco have been friends for more than twenty years. Rogen admits in his Sunday Times Magazine interview that the allegations have tarnished their friendship, but he doesn’t know at this point if he can say they are no longer friends.
‘I don’t know if I can define that now during this interview. I can say, um, you know, it changed a lot of things in our relationship and our dynamics. [It’s painful], but not as painful and difficult as for many others involved. I don’t feel sorry for myself in this situation. “
Rogen produced and appeared in last year’s HBO Max original An American pickle, who had no involvement from Franco. He is also producing the upcoming thriller Cobweb starring Antony Starr and Lizzy Caplan, but likewise Franco’s involvement will not be counted. This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter.
