In a recent tweet, James Gunn announced that his sequel / loose reboot of DC’s The Suicide Squad was fully completed and that the cast and crew would not be returning for a new recording. This initially gave fans hope that they could see the finished product sooner than expected, but since then Gunn has made it a point to inform prospective fans that the film will keep its August 6 release date where it will be released twice. in theaters and on HBO MAX.
With so much ample time between completion and release, fans have little to do but speculate, especially as to who will survive Gunn’s R-rated anti-hero movie. Described as coming from the “twisted” mind of James Gunn and with a roster full of mostly D-list villains, the odds don’t look hopeful for this lot, which will likely give a literal meaning to the name The suicide squad.
Weasel (Sean Gunn)
James Gunn is no stranger to writing virtually unknown cartoon characters in his films and casting his brother to play them; Rocket Raccoon everyone. However, Weasel has only appeared on the pages of DC comics a few times since his first appearance in 1985, and he is regularly considered a villain’s joke. Based on the single non-critical scene to show Weasel in both Suicide Squad trailers, expect this character to turn into road kill quite early in the movie. SURVIVING ODDS: 10,000-1
Blackguard (Pete Davidson)
While a half human half weasel sounds like a character’s joke, wait until you get a load of Dick Hertz (yes that’s his real name) played by SNL alum Pete Davidson. Equipped with dual guns and armor capable of generating an energy field, Blackguard could be a little better than our rodent friend above, but not by much. Based on what we’ve seen of him, Dick seems overly confident about his skills and abilities, and his stubbornness will likely have him killed early on the battlefield as he tries to prove himself to his more formidable teammates. If Blackguard’s fate wasn’t already sealed, Davidson also noted in a recent interview that he was in the Suicide Squad film for ‘like a minute’, essentially guaranteeing his fate. SURVIVING ODDS: 10,000-1
Javelin (Flula Borg)
I’m not a soldier, but I’m pretty sure that when it comes to invading a South American country and taking up that country’s military, one needs to bring more firepower than just a simple athletic aid. Yes, that’s right, Javelin is an important skill in being able to handle a Javelin like a true Olympian. Fans have been quick to see Harley Quinn expertly handle a spear-like weapon in battle throughout Suicide Squad trailers too, and we can only assume she’ll pick up the spear after the death of the original owner. SURVIVING ODDS: 10,000-1
TDK (Nathan Fillion)
Also known as Arm-Fall-Off-Boy, The Detachable Kid has the uncanny power to unbutton his own limbs and use them as blunt weapons. It’s unclear why team overseer Amanda Waller thought it would be a good idea to get this guy into the fold, and we can only assume that TDK will eventually lose more parts than just his detachable arms when the real fight begins. SURVIVING ODDS: 8,000-1
Mongal (Mayling Ng)
Among the various human villains jeopardizing the squad’s roster, fans soon saw an orange-skinned alien woman in their ranks. In the comics, Mongal is an alien warlord who regularly clashes with Superman, and while having an alien warlord on your team doesn’t seem like a bad idea in and of itself, Mongal seems like another overly stubborn character who will end prematurely. Mongal appears several times in the trailers of the movie, but especially in a scene where she shows herself trying to take down a helicopter, which immediately crashes into the next scene, while Mongal holds on with a look of pure fear on her face . . Bet on a firefly explosion to track this downturn and Mongal will be gone. SURVIVING ODDS: 7,000-1
Savant (Michael Rooker)
Every incarnation of The suicide squad always has a member who is too smart for their own good. Does anyone remember Slipknot? While Savant may be a bit more intelligent than Slipknot, he doesn’t seem smart enough to know that Amanda Waller isn’t bluffing when she promises to detonate those tiny skull implants that equip every member of the team. Savant will most likely survive the first fight, probably because he’s smart enough to avoid the toughest of fights, but something tells me this genius will eventually try to pull a quick one into the team, and that big brain of his will be no more. SURVIVING ODDS: 500-1
Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney)
While Captain Boomerang is a familiar face among a slew of new characters, the Captain’s chances of not returning in a body bag this time around aren’t great. Aside from a scene where Boomerang seemingly takes off a soldier’s head with one of his signature weapons, he is absent from most of both trailers, leading fans to believe that Gunn will kill this character early in an attempt to show that no one is safe is. . The captain may be sneaky so we can’t count him just yet, but he’s a serious underdog on this suicide outing. SURVIVING ODDS: 250-1
Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman)
Colonel Rick Flag is the only non-criminal and no-nonsense leader of Taskforce X, and it looks like he too will be back for another run with the team whether he likes it or not. Flag appears to have a strong presence throughout most of the trailer, but also appears to be absent from some of the more climatic action scenes. Many believe Flag will meet his fate on the mission, but it will also inspire the surviving team to move on without him. A divisive scene even shows Bloodsport being identified as the team leader, but no reason is given for this impromptu promotion. However, a conflicting theory says that Flag will survive the movie, but will be knocked out sooner than expected if he falls victim to Starro’s mind control, who we know is the real antagonist of the movie. SURVIVING ODDS: 100-1
Peacekeeper (John Cena)
The trailers, described by star John Cena as a “dumb Captain America,” make it clear that the Peacemaker will have a strong presence in the film, although the real question is how far the character will go to achieve his goal of world peace. . Obsessed with the idea that he can achieve peace on Earth, the character makes it clear that he will kill men, women, and children if necessary. The big question, however, is whether Peacemaker will die for his cause. While this would be a fitting ending for the character, Cena has already signed up to reprise his role in a spin-off series for HBO MAX, although it has yet to be confirmed whether the series will be a sequel or a prequel to it. character will be. . However, if one thing is certain, it is that if Peacemaker goes, it will certainly be in a beautiful, and probably violent glow of glory. SURVIVING ODDS: 75-1
Bloodsport (Idris Elba)
Bloodsport claims to be famous in the comics for being the man who shot Superman with a kryptonite bullet, and while he’s still considered a disposable character, it looks like Bloodsport will act as a secondary leader for Taskforce X. What sets Bloodsport apart with some of his other less reputable teammates is that he seems to be looking for some sort of redemption, which he may or may not find in death. Viewers soon noticed Bloodsports banter with the Ratcatcher, where he tells her he will get her out alive, leading many to believe Bloodsport will lay down its own life to save hers. However, Bloodsport is still a formidable fighter, and at least some of these misfits have to survive, so don’t count him down too soon, as he could eventually ride off into the sunset with Ratcatcher by his side and an army of rats not far behind. SURVIVING ODDS: 50-1
Pied Piper (Daniela Melchior)
The only member of the team not to appear in the comics before, the Ratcatcher’s origins are unknown at this point, with fans debating whether her character will be a gender-swapped version of the original Ratcatcher character, the original daughter or protégé. Whatever her origins, her ability to fight rats is evident, and judging by the trailers, this power is used in one of the climate scenes in the movie. While there is no doubt that Ratcatcher will make it to the final, fans have speculated that Ratcatcher will surprise everyone and sacrifice himself for Bloodsport, rather than the other way around. Either way, expect a tragic backstory for this character, but redemption nonetheless and hopefully a second chance at life. SURVIVING ODDS: 25-1
Polka Dot Man (David Dastmalchian)
I know, you wonder how a guy who calls himself Polka Dot Man could make it to the top three and not die hilariously early like the rest of these losers. Aside from Polka Dot Man appearing regularly in the trailer, fans believe his over-eagerness to die will lead to him ironically surviving the entire ordeal. Equipped with a high-tech suit and dots that can be turned into a variety of gadgets and weapons, this dorky MacGyver can really be helpful to the success of the mission. Given Gunn’s ironic sense of humor, it seems fitting that he would not only include a character like Polka Dot Man in his film, but let him survive in his entirety while so many others perish. SURVIVING ODDS: 15-1
King Shark (Steve Agee, voiced by Sylvester Stallone)
Say what you want about this half-man-half-shark brute, but King has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years between his performances on CW’s The flash, Harley Quinn, and several DC animated films. Through the trailers, King Shark literally tears men in half, and even a shotgun explosion seems to run backwards. Aside from the fact that King Shark is likely to be a major source of comedy throughout the movie, he practically doesn’t seem to kill, giving him the second highest survival rate. SURVIVING ODDS: 5-1
Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie)
If only one person could survive a mission to hell and back, it would be Harley Quinn. An incredibly capable opponent in her own right, Harley’s unparalleled bloodlust and insane luck make her a sure thing to walk away virtually unscathed. Aside from her traits for a moment, Warner Bros. not in their right mind learn a character that has so much potential for future projects. If Harley ever meets her maker, it will be as promised at one of the Zach Snyder’s Justice Leaguesequels, and certainly not during her tenure as a member of Task Force X.
The suicide squad premieres in theaters on August 6, as well as on HBO MAX.
