The Fast & Furious franchise has been like a magnet for today’s biggest action stars, from Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson to John Cena and Jason Statham. The following Fast and furious 9 is set as the first part of a final trilogy of films that will end the series. Although Statham will not appear F9 in his role as Deckard Shaw, the actor told Collider that he would love to return in the next two films that show the Fast and furious saga.
“I’d love to come back for those few movies. It’s thin ice that I’m skating on when I tell you what’s going to happen in the next movies. But I know. [F9 director] Justin Lin, I know him really well, and it was funny, when I came to do the cameo in 6, he never showed up until 7 and 8, and they’re the ones I did, so we’re destined to do something bigger . It’s been great working with Vin and all the other characters, I made some great friends with that movie and I really love the movie franchise itself. I think it is a worldwide success for all the right reasons. It’s just a great privilege to be a part of it. So if they want me on the next one, I’ll be there. “
While Deckard Shaw may not show up F9, his presence will be felt through the return of the character Han. When Shaw first entered the franchise as a villain, he established his credibility by killing Han off-screen. In later films, Shaw went from a reluctant ally of Dominic Toretto and his team to officially one of the good guys.
This didn’t go down well with fans, who started a #JusticeforHan campaign. The producers heard the cry, so Han is brought back F9. Statham, for his part, is aware of the bad blood that still exists between Shaw and Han, and is willing to settle the issue on screen, EW recently told EW: “[The Fast and Furious series] take me back cause I have to put out that fire. If he still has anything to settle, it’s me. ‘
Meanwhile, Jason Statham is also part of the successful Fast and furious spin-off series, Hobbs and Shaw. The first movie in the series was a huge success, but that doesn’t mean the team behind the project are rushing to make the next. According to Statham, the cast and crew are waiting to find the right script Hobbs and Shaw 2.
“Hundreds of millions are spent making the movie and promoting it, so they need a good script. We’re motivated to do something about that; we’re essentially waiting for the knock on the door.”
Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The film will hit theaters on June 25. Fast & Furious 10 has no start date for production yet. This news comes from Collider.
