Uh-oh, some of you won’t like this. Spider-Man: The Animated Series has departed Disney +. But don’t fret Marvel fans as the show is returning to the streaming service. Unfortunately, it’s just not clear when that will happen, nor has it been made clear why the show was removed at all. In any case, the fans’ favorite animation show cannot be watched on the service for now.
The 1994 animated series recently disappeared from Disney +. Earlier, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, also known asSpider Man, was available to stream in its entirety on the service. Fortunately, this is not a permanent removal. Twitter user Patty Bates took to Twitter to share an exchange with a Disney + customer service representative about the situation. The representative stated the following.
Thank you for contacting us about this Spider Man missing from the Disney + service. I fully understand your frustration here, but please know that we are aware of this problem and are actively working towards a solution. The good news is that Spider-Man (1994) will be returning to the service soon, but we don’t have specific dates to share at this point. I would suggest checking out the Disney + app at a later date. “
It was not disclosed which led to the show’s removal. It could have been a licensing issue. It could have been a technical problem. Be that as it may, fans are assured it will return. Bates pushed for further confirmation asking, “So it’s a known issue and will be added again?” The representative replied and assured that this is indeed the case.
“That’s right! In the meantime, we certainly appreciate your patience and understanding as we get Spider-Man (1994) up and running again.”
At worst, it seems this is a temporary setback for fans of Marvel’s regular webhead. Meanwhile, there are plenty of other animated shows around the hero available to stream on Disney +. The list includes 1981’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Spider-Man Unlimited, Ultimate Spider-Man and the current Spider Manseries, which started in 2017. Plus, Disney just struck a huge deal with Sony. It will make several possible Spider Man movies to eventually find their way to Disney +. While it has still not been revealed which films will specifically debut first, it has also not been announced when those first titles will be available to stream.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series debuted in 1994 and ran for five seasons until 1998. All told, 65 episodes aired. The show remains one of the most beloved character adaptations in any medium. Christopher Daniel Barnes led the cast as Peter Parker. There has been quite a bit of demand to see the actor reprise his role Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. Rumors have circulated that this could be the case, but nothing has been confirmed yet. It is entirely possible that the studio is trying to hide Barnes’s involvement. Although at this point it would be a poorly kept secret. You can view the original poster on Patty Bates’ Twitter account.
