Guardians of the Universe and MCU star Dave Bautista isn’t shy about how much he wants to make the jump to DC to play Batman villain, Bane. The actor has said for the past few years how well he fits the character, now revealing some of the details behind an aggressive but good-humored pitch he made for Warner Bros. made about the prospect of bringing Bane to life on screen.
“Oh, it would be Bane all day. I made no secret of this. I want to play Bane so bad that I went to Warner Bros., had a date with them, had a date with DC, walked in the door and said, “I want to play Bane.” I’m not kidding. They were kind of like “Woah, we don’t even cast Bane.” I thought, “I don’t care, I’m playing him. “
While this no-nonsense, bullish approach in itself proves just how perfect Bautista is for the Batman role, the studio quickly let him know that they had no plans for Bane at this point. While the poor studio execs who had their door kicked by the 6 ′ 6 ″, 290 lbs behemoth assumed he was joking, Bautista has assured that he definitely wasn’t.
“I wasn’t kidding. But in all fairness they giggled well and showed me the exit … At least I gave it a shot. My life seems to be an ongoing mission to find an alternative route to get to where I want to be. I’m good at that. “
Well, you certainly can’t argue with his passion. With the Army of the Dead star who is clearly very eager to be the next actor to bring the colossal supervillain to life, and based on Bautista’s sheer size and apparent talent, it would be difficult for the studio to find someone better for Bane should the character appear in a future project appear.
Should the opportunity to join the Batman Rogue’s gallery never presents itself, Dave Bautista has now planted his flag in another DC character, Lobo’s. “I would really watch Lobo. I would be really interested. I would be all over that,” said the actor, discussing the possible parts he could play in DC’s cinematic universe.
For now, Bautisa is busy, with lead roles in several action-packed projects on the horizon. The first is that of director Zack Snyder Army of the Dead, in which Bautista leads an ensemble cast with Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi and Garret Dillahunt as a group of mercenaries plan a robbery in a casino in Las Vegas during a zombie outbreak. Army of the Dead is scheduled for release in select theaters and on Netflix on May 21, 2021.
Bautista will also hunt aliens Universe is Most Wanted, who finds him as an intergalactic peacekeeper who must summon a group of alien prisoners after a spaceship of the universe’s most wanted and dangerous criminals crash lands on Earth.
He will also return to the Marvel world as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is expected to hit theaters in 2023. This is made available to us thanks to Justice Con.
