Few actor-director couples are more celebrated than Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese collaborations. The duo will then team up with Scorsese’s other muse, Robert De Niro, to create the western drama. Killers of the Flower Moon, based on the novel by the American journalist David Grann. The screenwriter of the movie Eric Roth told Collider that the ambitious movie with a budget of $ 200 million will be one of a kind.
“I know Marty is trying to make a movie that is probably the last western to be made this way, and yet, with this incredible social document underneath, and the violence and the environment ever seen, in a sense. for me this is one for all ages.
The book Killers of the Flower Moon investigates a series of murders of wealthy Osage people that took place in Osage County, Oklahoma in the early 1920s. The land had provided evidence of massive oil deposits belonging to the Osage people. A grim plot was hatched to eliminate the owners of Osage County so that the land administrators could claim the oil supplies instead.
The incident remained shrouded in mystery for some time, with the total number of Osage people murdered estimated to be much higher than the official count. The newly formed FBI was called in to investigate the murders, which ultimately led to the trial and conviction of herdsman William Hale as the founder of the entire plot.
According to Roth, while the story’s description doesn’t make it sound like a true western, the primary ethos belongs to the western genre.
“I mean, people are going to be in packs and stuff, because it’s 1921. It’s during Prohibition, but the ethos I think is very Western. And also, I think Western justice, about how they said you weren’t 12 white men … to convict a white person for murdering a native American You would have a higher chance of them being convicted of kicking a dog. And that’s kind of a feeling about that. And then you have also these incredible people, the Osage family that comes and marries a character, and who’s a bad guy and who’s not. And then comes some kind of heroic man – Tom White, his name was, who Jesse Plemons plays – who in Tired of the Texas Rangers, and you can’t get more Western than that. “
While, of course, fans assumed DiCaprio would star in the Martin Scorsese film, there were rumors that Jesse Plemons would play the lead role instead, while DiCaprio would have a supporting role. Roth explained that both Plemons and DiCaprio have equally meaty roles in the script, adding, “Leo’s role is very complicated and very interesting. It’s a smart role for a smart actor to play. I mean, like Montgomery Clift. was still alive, I think he might think of playing with him. ”This news comes from Collider.
