It’s been five years since the last Star Trek movie hit theaters. However, it looks like the wait could be almost over. Paramount shuffled a number of release dates earlier this week, including an unnamed Star Trek film for 2023. There has been a lot of talk about what the next big screen adventure could be for the franchise, including a movie starring Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine, along with a Quentin Tarantino project that appears to be evaporated, even though it unleashed a tremendous amount of hype. Would Tarantino really ever have one Star Trek movie?
Paramount has claimed June 9, 2023 as the release date for the upcoming Star Trek movie. Unfortunately, this is where the new information stops. According to i09, this project is not the one Kalinda Vazquez, a producer and writer, is in Star Trek: Discovery, is currently developing together with J.J. Abrams. The aforementioned movie is believed to be in development, but it has nothing to do with the new movie Paramount is planning. However, it is also believed that Abrams will be a producer of the top secret 2023 project.
In a new interview, Spock actor Zachary Quinto revealed he would be more than happy to return for the long-rumored Star Trek 4The actor also said he has moved on with the idea that once happened, as he currently no longer owns it. Quinto went on to say, “You never know that things come back in surprising ways and they are surprising times, and it could be fun when it happens.” As for this new project that turns into Star Trek 4, that’s clearly unclear at this point, and the release date could shift at some point in the future.
Major studios have been known to claim a release weekend even before a proper script is written, which could very well be the case with this self-titled 2023 Star Trek project. Some longtime fans of the franchise have been looking forward to a full reboot of the franchise for something very similar to the original TV series. Others hope that Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will reunite to finish their story. Perhaps the movie is the one that Quentin Tarantino was originally attached to. Regardless, it looks like Paramount could be gearing up for something pretty big for the fans.
There is also talk of a large interconnected universe with Paramount + as the home of everything Star TrekMarvel Studios is currently enjoying success with their Disney + partnership, which has already introduced fans to WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter SoldierBringing it all together, both big and small screen, could be something Paramount is looking for, although that’s yet to be officially confirmed at this point. i09 was one of the first outlets to report on the mysterious new 2023 Star Trek movie.
