A new performance currently known as Paranormal activity 7 and a prequel to Stephen King’s Pet Sematary will be confirmed and will go straight to Paramount’s new streaming service, Paramount +. The Paranormal activity reboot was a project fans were already aware of, but the Pet Sematary prequel comes as a complete surprise. The former was originally scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022, although it is unknown if the streaming release will keep the same date, while the latter’s release schedule is unknown at this point, but will likely be the same year. the screens will appear.
The new installment in the Paranormal activity activity franchise has already turned to Underwater’s William Eubank to lead the project, which will be written by Christopher Landon, who has previously written four films in the hugely successful found footage horror series. While the details of the direction for this redesign are currently unknown, it has been described as an approach that “revives” the franchise through an “unexpected adjustment.”
Released in 2007, the first Paranormal activity follows a young couple, Katie and Micah, who recently moved to a new home in San Diego, California. They are gradually being terrorized by a demon that Katie believes has followed her all her life. Micah decides to set up cameras in their house, and that’s how the found footage genre has emerged. The next five sequels build on the central couple, Katie in particular, and the series has made huge gains despite mixed critical response.
As for the surprise Pet Sematary prequel, Jeff Buhler will write the script with Lorenzo di Bonaventura as producer. Stephen King’s story has been adapted a few times, most recently in 2019 by directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer. The last Pet Sematary is the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1983 novel of the same name, and again follows a family who discover a mysterious graveyard in the woods behind their new home. After losing their cat, Church, in an accident, they decide to bury the beloved pet in the nearby cemetery, creating a darkness that soon haunts the Creeds in terrifying ways.
Buhler, who wrote the script for the 2019 adaptation, has previously provided some insight into how he plans to continue the franchise. “We had discussions about possible sequels, and for the most part, everyone feels like we’ve told the story of the Creeds,” says Buhler. “It’s hard, there are ways to continue with this story, this particular story, but it almost feels, the trajectory of this movie feels like we’ve flown the plane a bit into the mountain.
He added that he hopes to continue the story by exploring the broader mythology, saying, “ So a lot of the ideas we’ve been wandering about currently and recently are all about, more about digging into the mythology of the city, these rituals that present children, the mythology of the Micmac, the Wendigo, the burial place, the origin, the life of Jud. So it seems like I don’t want to make any promises because we don’t know, we’re not even down the road on an idea yet. ”
Paramount + are clearly interested in investing heavily in the horror genre, with The between by filmmaker Arie Posin who also leads the platform next door Paranormal activity and Pet Sematary The between tells the story of a teenage girl who, after surviving a car accident in which her boyfriend died, thinks he is trying to reconnect with her from the afterlife. This comes to us thanks to Deadline.
