The TV show True Lies has just taken a step forward as CBS has officially placed a trial order for the show. Based on the 1994 film of the same name by director James Cameron, the True lies Adaptation of TV series will be developed by Fire alarm creator Matt Nix, McG and Cameron for the 20th century. The three will all serve as executive producers, with Nix writing the pilot and McG directing.
As a reboot series, True lies Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee will not bring Curtis back to take over their roles from the film, but the pilot will follow similar characters in an almost identical storyline. According to a series description, “ Shocked to discover that her dull and inconspicuous computer consultant husband is a skilled international spy, an unfulfilled suburban housewife finds herself in a life of danger and adventure when she is recruited to work with him around the world. as they try to revive their passionless marriage. “
McG has been trying to get a True Lies reboot off the ground for years. In 2017, it was announced that Fox planned to produce a pilot with executive producer McG and Marc Guggenheim writing the script. The project collapsed before it really took hold, but McG remained dead silent on the revisit True liesProgress appeared to be moving forward in 2019 when McG said a new show based on the movie would be developed for Disney +, but like the Fox deal, this version also seemed to be left out.
Oddly, it was working on another reboot of a classic movie that finally got the ball rolling True liesLast year, McG was hired to write and produce a TV series reboot of Turney & Hooch for Disney +, created and executive produced by Matt Nix. Their collaboration led to the exploration of other ideas, which resulted in their new pitch for a True lies reboot that caught the attention of CBS. It certainly didn’t help that the network was already interested in rebooting classic franchises with titles like Clarice and The equalizer on the way.
The original was written and directed by James Cameron True lies follows Arnold Schwarzenegger as US government agent Harry Tasker, a spy struggling to balance his work and family life. Jamie Lee Curtis stars as his wife, who eventually becomes involved when she realizes what her husband is doing. Bill Paxton, Tom Arnold, Tia Carrere, Art Malik and Eliza Dushku also played. The film was a box office hit and was nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects.
No casting information has yet been announced for the True lies TV series, but now that the pilot gets the green light, it won’t be long before we all know that. While the original movie version worked fine, it remains to be seen if the TV series will translate just as well, but it seems to be in good hands with as big a fan as McG taking the reins.
