The Full House reference WandaVision has been revealed. Elizabeth Olsen previously teased that a reference to the classic sitcom would be included, though she was shooting down theories that her sisters, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, would appear in the Disney + series. WandaVision has shown fans a new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, keeping everyone on their toes with every new episode. WandaVision’s On a Very Special Episode … mainly deals with the aesthetic worlds of Family ties and Growing pains. There is a nod to it, though Full House thrown in the opening titles, which borrow its theme songs from Growing pains“As long as we have each other.” At the end of the opening titles, Wanda and Vision can be seen picnicking with their twin boys, which is a direct reference to how the Full House opening credits ends. As Elizabeth Olsen promised, it was just a small nod to the work her sisters did on the iconic sitcom.
When discussing a Full House nod in WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen said she was “excited” to do it, noting that her famous twin sisters are very familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As for taking a deeper look at the work of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, director Matt Shakman didn’t want their tribute to look like a parody. “For us, we have faithfully and authentically recreated the style of the shows,” said the director. While the reference to Full House is subtle, it is something that many fans noticed immediately.
Some Full House fans have even stretched that Wanda Maximoff has twins as a nod to the sitcom, although MCU fans know it’s actually from the comic book’s source material. WandaVision would have had twins regardless of which actress took on the role, but fans have turned to Elizabeth Olsen, along with her sisters. Some MCU fans first realized that Olsen’s sisters both starred as Michelle Tanner on Full House, thanks to everyone celebrating the Easter Egg on social media. Many people on Twitter were stunned when they learned that fact. “I had no idea that Elizabeth Olsen was related to the Olsen twins, now I see it,” one person said on social media.
Episode 5 of WandaVision was a special episode for many reasons, although perhaps the most important one is that Vision is starting to figure out what’s going on. Paul Bettany has teased a possible rift between his character and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda, and it looks like it will happen soon. As with all previous installments, MCU fans have a lot more questions than answers, even as the curtain starts to slowly draw back to reveal more.
