According to Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, the original plan for it Deadpool 3 was to make a “road trip” style movie after Deadpool and Wolverine. On Twitter, Reynolds tried to draw attention to the hashtag #BellLetsTalk to help raise awareness about mental health. In an apparent effort to give the tweet more traction, Reynolds also casually revealed the original Deadpool 3 concept before Disney acquired Fox to take the mercenary in a different direction with a mouth.
Reynolds’ tweet reads, “It’s critical to have open, honest, and healthy discussions about mental health. Retweeting #BellLetsTalk can make a difference. If that’s not enough, before Disney bought Fox,” Deadpool 3 would be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. Really.”
For those who are not familiar, Rashomon refers to the classic Japanese story that influenced the 1950 film Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa. In the original story, a servant and an old woman both remember the same story of a confrontation between them, but each remembers the sequence of events in a different way that turns them into the hero. We can only imagine how Logan would see Deadpool from his POV, and vice versa.
It is not known how far this particular idea had progressed or whether this was the screenplay Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick worked on in the years since. Deadpool 2 was released. Because after that Jackman had stopped playing the part of Wolverine Logan in 2017 it would have taken some convincing too Ryan Reynolds to have him step back into the part for the last time Deadpool 3. It’s unclear whether Jackman had admitted before Disney’s Fox acquisition put a stop to the concept entirely.
After Deadpool 3 moved production to Marvel Studios, Reese and Wernick left the project with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin writing the new script. This month, Marvel boss Kevin Feige also confirmed that the plan is for the film to keep an R rating like the first two Deadpool movies. He also said the film is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens the door to a host of other exciting creative possibilities, even if it means that the Logan “road trip” movie is lagging behind.
The X-Men The franchise will also be completely rebooted now that the team of mutated superheroes is in the hands of Disney. Feige has introduced the X-Men in the MCU at some point in the future, although there is no word yet when this might happen. At the moment there are no plans to make one X-Men movies, but that’s not to say the characters can’t appear in another MCU movie first. In a recent interview, Feige noted that the role of the new Logan had still not been cast.
Whatever happens in Deadpool 3we won’t see it soon. With so many other Marvel productions already on the board, filming Deadpool 3 will start filming in 2022 at the earliest. A release date has not yet been set by Marvel Studios. This news comes from Ryan Reynolds on Twitter.
