After being hospitalized with a mysterious illness this week, Saved by the bell star Dustin Diamond has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. It was recently reported that Diamond sought medical treatment after feeling tremendous pain all over his body. Since his mother died of breast cancer, there were concerns that Dustin could fight cancer too, and doctors have unfortunately determined that these fears are true.
According to TMZ, Dustin Diamond reportedly has cancer throughout his body and has already started his first round of chemotherapy treatments. It was also reported that Diamond felt a lump in his throat that led to his diagnosis. The actor’s representative noted that Dustin also feels pain from shingles. Obviously, the forecast is very grim, and the television star could use all his prayers and good wishes now.
“At this point, we can confirm that Dustin has cancer,” a statement posted on Diamond’s Facebook page. “Dustin Will will release more information as it becomes available and there is a plan to move forward … We ask everyone to respect Dustin’s privacy during this difficult time. All positivity and prayers are appreciated.”
Diamond played the famous Samuel “Screech” Powers in every episode of Saved by the bell as well as both original spin-off shows, The new class and The College Years. He has not appeared on any of the cast reunions since the end of the series and was not asked to play the role in Peacock’s new Saved by the bell reboot series, although most of the other original characters have returned. Last year, Diamond spoke of his disappointment at not being invited to be a part of the new show.
“It’s something we put so much time and effort into,” explains Diamond. “How did you Saved by the bell without Screech? Turn right? I mean, it looks like there’s a missed opportunity there. “
While Screech was nowhere to be seen in the first season of the reboot, there was still an opportunity to bring the character back in a possible second season. Address the situation What’s happening live with Andy Cohen in November, Diamond’s former co-star Elizabeth Berkley teased that Screech’s return was possible, even though she hadn’t spoken to Dustin for a while.
“So I don’t know if he will appear. We’ll see if there’s another season. Maybe it’s something to discover, and I haven’t spoken to him in a long time,” Berkeley said at the time. “Honestly, since I think we’re done with the show, this is the last time I’ve actually spoken to him, but not because of anything bad. I mean he was always nice to me and he’s had his journey, but I really have more contact with Mark-Paul, Tiffany, Mario and then, from time to time, Lark. “
Hopefully, Dustin can return to the Saved by the bell franchise, but the focus is now on improving Dustin. Since Diamond can use a lot of support at this point, fans are encouraged to include their good wishes in letters or cards. Emails can also be sent as they are printed and sent to Diamond. Right now, Dustin’s team is asking that these addresses not be used for signature requests, as this is not for that. Emails that Dustin wishes best can be sent to [email protected], and physical cards and letters can be sent to Insurance King, ℅ Dustin Diamond, 127 N. Alpine Rd., Rockford, IL 61107.
