Tom Hanks has revealed his daring new look for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic. Production is back up in Australia, after hitting significant speed bumps earlier this year. Hanks plays Elvis Presley’s infamous manager, Colonel Tom Parker, and in March he and his wife, Rita Wilson, got into trouble with COVID and had to quarantine them, causing production to stop.
In a new interview, Tom Hanks revealed that filming has started again on the Elvis biopic. He also showed off a freshly shaved head for the role of interviewer Graham Norton. ‘Let me show you the awful haircut that I must have … Look at this awful – see that? Look at that thing! Look at that goofy … I just scared the kids. I want to apologize.’ Hanks is completely bald and you can easily tell that he doesn’t really like the look at the moment, although he may learn to live with it in time.
This isn’t the first time Tom Hanks has shaved his head for a movie role. In 1993 the actor shaved his head Philadelphia, which earned him the Best Actor Oscar at the 66th Academy Awards. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Hanks shaved this year either. After returning home from Australia, the actor took part in the first Saturday Night Live At Home episode in which he performed the opening monologue. At that point, his hair grew back after he was away from the Presley biopic set for about a month.
Tom Hanks’ latest film, News of the World, is currently running in select cinemas around the world. A VOD release date has been set for January 15, 2021. The actor is delighted that people will see the film. He recently shared why he applied for the role. “First of all, the actual job itself, the news anchor, the guy who traveled from town to town to educate and connect audiences in different, small towns – Wichita Falls, what have you. I thought that was a job I would have wanted if I had lived in the 1870s, “says Hanks.” I thought that would be fascinating. Because you would both provide the service and provide some kind of connectivity that people wouldn’t have. ”At the time of writing, the film received positive reviews from viewers and critics.
The Elvis Presley movie is currently filming in Australia with Austin Butler in the title role. The project was first announced in April 2014, when Baz Luhrmann began negotiations to direct the project, with Kelly Marcel writing the script. However, it would be another 5 years before anything was officially announced. Tom Hanks was the first to sign up, followed by Butler.
